The Bald Eagle
Multi-Sensory Moving Art driven by Wind

The following is a short description of the Bald EagleMulti-Sensory Moving Art presentation made at the Gina M Woodruff gallery in LongBeach, CA, on May 18 - 19, 2012.

A huge digital version of the Bald Eagle originalpainting, made by my friend Ted Hayward of Canada, is projected on the gallerywall, and I am standing maybe 2-3 meters on the side so people can see thishuge display. I have a small tag, a Wi-Fi tag in my hand, and I am tellingthe audience about the Bald Eagle flying away from her nest under this very badweather with wind, fog and rain. The digital image on the wall is static, so Iam telling the audience that I will blow wind into the small tag and astonishinglythis wind will make its way into the display and we will have the Eagle flyagainst this wind in real time. I start blowing wind into the tag now. Sure enough, as I am blowing wind into the tag, thiswind appears into the wall display and we see the Eagle fight against it. The moment I stop blowing wind into the tag, the wind stops and the display goes back to the initial original static image.

This is a very good example of interactive art, wherethe viewer controls the art by using a tag in his/her hands. Blowing wind isone type of control, where the tag has a wind sensor which digitizes the blow andsends the values to a cloud instrument which has the Bald Eagle Art as userinterface displayed on the gallery wall.
